Support Safety Management Digital Node Stuttgart (DKS)

DB Projekt Stuttgart-Ulm GmbH

Stuttgart, May 2023 to ongoing
ATO DSTW Digital Interlocking-CBTC

Erstellung und Begleitung des Sicherheitsmanagements für DKS

Digital control and safety technology for maximum performance, operational quality and resilience is being planned and implemented in the Digital Rail Germany (DSD) pilot node. With the commissioning of the Stuttgart Digital Node (DKS) in 2026, Deutsche Bahn is defining the parameters for the digital transformation of the railway in Germany. In this project, all DSTW, ETCS, ITSecurity, bbIP technologies and various peripheral systems will be equipped together for the first time at a central German railway node and introduced in regular operations.

NEXTRAIL is supporting the project in the area of safety management with supporting and advisory activities. This includes the creation and maintenance of the safety plan and the technical review of the phase-related documents in accordance with EN 50126. Furthermore, we provide support in the creation of standard-compliant templates and the hazard protocol (phase 3) as well as the proof of safety from phase 6 (preliminary) and phase 9 (final). We also provide support in coordinating with validation, verification and other roles in accordance with EN 50126.

Key areas of service

  • Supporting and advising the role of the safety manager DKS on the specific application DB for EN5012x-compliant documentation for each life cycle phase

  • Creation and maintenance of the safety plan (across phases)

  • Specialist review of the phase-related documents in accordance with EN 50126

  • Support with the creation of the hazard log (phase 3)

  • Support in the preparation of the risk assessment (phase 3)

  • Support with the safety case in phase 6 (preliminary) and phase 9 (final)

  • Support in the creation of templates for phase-related documents in accordance with EN 50126

  • Coordination with various roles according to EN 50126 and role plan in the project (if required)

Special features

As part of the tasks in the individual work packages, NEXTRAIL will support the initial integration of safety and approval processes for non-interoperability (DSTW) and interoperability components (ETCS). In addition, the previously assessed safety processes for ETCS, including project-specific adaptations from Corridor A, were reused in this project.
