The EuE papers from the already created VV-NTZ process could be used for their own safety method. The findings from this process were used for the new Release 3.1 and 3.2.
During the update of the ETCS Level 2 specifications for DB Netz AG, a risk assessment was carried out for many change requests (CRs) in accordance with CSM-RA. The safety relevance and significance of the individual CRs were assessed. For a significant CR, the full risk management process as per CSM-RA was applied and documented. The independent evaluation body has confirmed that the procedure was carried out in accordance with the ordinance.
As the specifications were required for implementation projects, the project was under considerable political and time pressure. Another challenge was the many interfaces to other projects, such as the Corridor A implementation project and the generic specifications for ETCS Level 1. As NEXTRAIL has an excellent knowledge of both safety and ETCS and was also represented in the interfacing projects – through the Safety Manager in Corridor A or the participation in ETCS Level 1 – the project was carried out safely and quickly.
Key areas of service
-
Application of CSM-RA for the development of specifications
-
Consolidation of CSM-RA with the existing process for the German administrative regulation on new type approvals (VV-NTZ)
-
ETCS Level 2 specifications (operational–technical system functions)
Special features
This project broke new ground in two ways. For one, CSM-RA was used for the first time for generic specification development in the field of ETCS. In addition, CSM-RA and the German administrative regulation on new type approvals were brought together in a single project for the first time. This made it possible to use the EuE papers from the already created VV-NTZ process for their own security method, and the knowledge gained from this was used in the new Releases 3.1 and 3.2.
